Quicklime is a common industrial mineral with wide-ranging applications. Also known as burnt lime, calcium oxide or CaO, quicklime is produced through the calcination of limestone, a calcium carbonate-containing sedimentary rock. During the high-temperature calcination process, limestone undergoes thermal decomposition which releases carbon dioxide and transforms the mineral into a highly caustic powder.
