Uses of Quick Lime
Quick lime, chemically known as calcium oxide (CaO), is a commonly used chemical compound. It exists as a white crystalline solid. Quicklime is manufactured from the calcination of limestone which is the thermal decomposition of limestone, which contains calcium carbonate. Calcination of limestone is executed by heating the material to a high temperature of above 825°C. Due to its inexpensive and versatile nature, quicklime is widely used in the industrial sector for a variety of purposes.
pH neutraliser
It is essential to the steel industry due to its major use in the basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) process. The usage varies from about 30 to 50kg per tonne of steel. Quickline help to neutralise acidic oxides such as aluminium oxide and iron (III) oxide to produce a basic molten slag.
Food additive
Quicklime is a food additive with multiple purposes. It is popular in the food industry as an acid regulator, a flour treatment agent and a leavener mattress makers. According to FAO, it has E number E529.
Concrete ingredient
In the construction industry, it is used in the production of aerated concrete blocks, with densities that is of 0.6-1.0g/cm3.
